At the SACC Annual Competition and Exhibition held in Mallow on Sunday 18 February, Mallow Camera Club swept the boards winning all but one of the top prizes, thus securing their place as the best club in the south of the country.

The club won the event outright and also took first place in each of the three sections, Colour Prints, Monochrome Prints, and Slides.  In the individual category club members Morgan O’Neill and John Hooton won first prize in Colour Prints and Slides sections respectively.

The competition was judged by Des Clinton, Judy Boyle and Seán Casey who are all award winning experienced photographers, and well known within the Irish photographic community.

Mallow now qualifies to compete in the IPF National Photography Finals which will be held in Dublin on 21 & 22 April.

The competiton was a great success. The judges said they were very impressed with the quality of the photographs on display.

Fourteen clubs from all over the region traveled to Mallow to compete in the competition which is the most important in the SACC calendar.

Mallow Camera Club is honored to be hosting the SACC Annual Competition and Exhibition in the Patrician Academy, Mallow on Sunday 18 February 2007.

Clubs from all over the south of the country will travel to Mallow to participate in this event, which is also the regional qualifier for the IPF National Photography Finals to be held in April.

The Exhibition will be open to the public from 1pm.

12:30 to 14:00 Lunch (snacks and soup will be available at the venue)

VENUE

The venue will be signposted from all roads entering the town. Please note the signs will say IPF in red. The venue is just off the carpark behind the Hibernian Hotel, close to Mallow Garda Station. There is plenty of parking at the venue.

Irish Photographic Federation (IPF) – a federation of all camera clubs in Ireland.

Southern Association of Camera Clubs (SACC) – a region of the IPF spanning the country south of a line from Arklow to Shannon Town.

Mallow Camera Club is proud to host an evening with Des Clinton on Monday next. Des is one of the most distinguished photographers in the country and he will be in Mallow to judge the SACC Annual Competition and Exhibition on Sunday. His talk on Monday night is entitled ‘Best of Irish’ and promises to be a memorable night. Meeting will take place at 8:30 sharp in the Southside Community Centre, Bellvue, Mallow (behind Church of the Resurrection). All welcome, including non members and other clubs. There might even be a cup of tea afterwards. :-)

Mallow Camera Club members  continue to win prizes in major regional and national competitions. In the SACC Nature Competition held in Cahir in January, club members came away with four of the six medals up for grabs.

John Hooton won gold in the Colour Slide section while Bríd Coakley won silver and bronze medals in the same category.  Morgan O’Neill also won a silver medal in the Colour Print section with his excellent shot of two stags.

Club members also traveled to Portlaoise for the IPF National Print, Slide, and Digital Projected Championships on Sunday 11 March and again came away with medals and certificates.  This competition, which attracted over 400 entries, was open to photographers from around the country and was adjudicated by experienced judges from Scotland and Ireland.

John Hooton won gold and bronze medals in the Colour Slide section while Bríd Coakley finished in the top ten.  In the new Digital Projected Imaage section John Doheny won a silver medal with his seascape shot entitled ‘Algarve Sunset’ (below).Algarve Sunset
