From Photon Detector comes news that Johnny McMillan is organising an exhibition by Irish Holga photographers starting on February 22nd at the Monster Truck Studio and Gallery in Dublin.

Any Holga owners in the club want to contribute?

The club visited Pineapple Studios at the end of October 2006 where we were shown around by Jessica Jones and Tina. There’s a more detailed write-up on inphotos.org but here’s a photo Jessica took of the group. 1-2-3.. Say Cheese!

A few days ago I received the following email from Geoff Pick of the Geograph Project. It may be of interest to members of the club:

Hi

I am one of several thousand amateur photographers who are contributing to the non profit-making Geograph project which aims to obtain at least one representative photograph of every half kilometre square of the British and Irish Ordnance Survey maps. To date we have collected over 250,000 images but are very short of Irish photos with only 7% coverage when compared to 58% of the UK. Can any of your members help?

The link is http://www.geograph.org.uk   Just zoom in on the map !!

Hopefully you will be able to give some publicity to this project which will provide a photographic record of our islands for many years to come

Many thanks

Geoff Pick

I may sign up and submit a few photos but it’s worth noting that images uploaded there will be bound by the terms of a Creative Commons licence. In a nutshell, what that means is that you retain the copyright of any photos you upload, but you must allow commercial usage, usually with an attribution clause so you will be identified as the copyright holder. You can read more about the various licences at creativecommons.org

For more information, please visit the Geograph Site.

The next club competition, “Patterns Around Us” will be on Monday, November 27th. The theme of the competition is patterns.
There are four sections:

  1. Black and white/monochrome print
  2. Colour print
  3. Slide
  4. Digital Images

Digital images need to be handed to John Doheny before Thursday the 23rd of November. Bring them along to the meeting next Monday the 20th to ensure entry if you can’t meet John after that. (Thanks Brid!)

Tomorrow is the big day when photography clubs around Ireland descend on Portlaoise for the Irish Photographic Federation’s National Shield Competition. This year Dunamaise Photographic Society is hosting the competition. It’s on in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise but if you don’t know your way there a map of the town is online too.

Mallow Camera Club will be represented there by members who are traveling up early tomorrow morning. Give Brid a ring if you’re interested in going. They’re leaving very early in the morning so you can’t say you weren’t warned!

We’ll be in good company, I see that Sligo Camera Club will be there too. It should be a good day for all!

Update – the results are out, via Sligo Camera Club. I’ll post more details about the competition later along with photos.

This is a test message to fill up some space on the Mallow Camera Club website. There is also a small gallery but it’s all just work in progress right now.
