The SACC Nature competition was held recently in the kilmurry Lodge in Limerick. The competition is a regional qualifier for the national nature finals. Mallow had a strong contingent of members present on the day ,12 in all, with everybody getting at least an image or more through to the finals.

Bill Power kept the flag flying for Mallow when his image ‘Fungi Family’ won the ‘Best Flora’ category. Another image by Bill ‘Kingfisher on Green’ was one of 8 photos to get a score of 18 in the printed section, but was pipped at the post. Well done Bill.

Geraldine Dennehy makes RTE Weather final

An image taken by club member Geraldine Dennehy has been shortlisted for the RTE Weather final, Winter theme.

Geraldine only learned the news today and was told that her image will be on tomorrow 5th of January on the 6 and 9 o clock news.

On speaking to Geraldine, she is overjoyed to have made the final , so make sure you tune in tommorrow and lend her your support.

Rodney O’Callaghan and Morgan O’Neill have been chosen for the Irish team to represent Ireland in the 2011 Bienniel ”Movement”.

They are amongst twenty of the top images that make up the team.

Ireland has gained a very high standard in International competitions in the last few years,hopefully they will do well in the 2011 Bienniels.

Mallow Camera Club Brings home The Rose Bowl

Camera Clubs from all over Ireland took part in the Irish Photogrpahic Federations National Clubs Finals held in Athlone this weekend.
The Irish Photographic Federation (I.P.F.) is the umbrella body for amateur photography in Ireland.
The two day event, held at the Athlone Institute of Technology is the biggest competitive event in the amateur photography calendar in
Ireland. This year the judges travelled from Holland, Crotia and Northern Ireland.

Each club is eligable to enter two panels, one monochrome and one colour with each panel having ten images. Judging of
the monochrome panels took place on Saturday but final results were not announced until Sunday afternoon following the
judging of the colour images. Mallow Camera Club took second place in the monchrome section and achieved first place in the
colour section. As overall winners of the competition they were also awarded the coveted “Rose Bowl” This is the first time a
club from the Southern Association of Camera Clubs has won “The Rose Bowl” and it is especially significant this year as Mallow
Camera Club celebrates its Silver Jubilee.

There were also a number of individual winners with John Hooton winning a gold medal for the best colour image in the competition,

Morgan O’Neill winning a silver medal in the colour section and Brid Coakley winning a bronze medal also in the colour section.
John Hooton and John O’Flynn also received an honourable mention in the monochrome section while Brid Coakely and Morgan O’Neill both received honourable
mentions in the colour section.
There was further success for club member, Mark Heffernan who was awarded a Licenteship Distinction from the I.P.F. following judging of
his individual panel. Congradulations to Mark.
Overall a tremendous weekend for all the members of the club.

Anne is a very active member of Dumfries Camera Club and her work has contributed significantly to their wide ranging success in national and inter-club competitions. She is one of only two people who have achieved the Credit, Distinction and Master Award of the PAGB. Anne is a PAGB listed judge. She has judged many international exhibitions but never a club competition!
Rod joined the Dumfries Club in 1983 and has twice served as their president. He has been a member of the SPF Executive for more than 25 years and has been SPF president. He joined the PAGB Executive in 1990 and served as president 2005-2007. He has organised and chaired the PAGB Inter-Club Print Championship since its inception in 1997 and the PAGB GB Cup since its inception in 2008 but he considers his most important contribution to be the PAGB Awards for Photographic Merit. Rod prepared the first draft of these awards, defining a structure remains little changed to this day. In 1999 he succeeded Ian Platt as the non-voting chairman of the adjudicators.
Rod is also a member of the RPS Associate and Fellowship Panel for Visual Art.
Although Anne & Rod are successful professional photographers with a busy portrait studio – twice MPA Scottish Portrait Photographer of the Year – they have never lost their amateur roots, competing and exhibiting widely. Between them they have nearly 5000 acceptances and over 250 awards in national and international exhibitions.

SUCCESS AT THE NATIONAL FINALS

The recent Print & Projected Images competition, held over the weekend on the 18th Feburary was a great success.

The judges were picked from the top shelf , Kevin Adlard FRPS, EFIAP www.kevinadlard.com

The standard was exceptionally very very high.

Mallow members done very well in the results.

In the mono section Brid coakley took the Silver medal above some very tough competition.

In the projected images John Hooton took the Bronze medal , Morgan O’Neill won an Honourable Mention.

Lukasz Sadlak took the bronze in the intermediate section with Pakki O’Donoghue taken bronze in the colour print intermediate.

John Hooton took the theme medal for the best coastal landscape in the colour secton.

Overall it was a very sucessful weekend in Athlone.

SALON SUCCESS FOR MORGAN O’NEILL

Morgan O’Neill has won a FIAP ribbon in the 2nd Gia Dinh International contest in Vietnam.
It was a very tough salon with 5365 entries from 54 countries awarding only 110 acceptances in the mono section,
and 123 acceptances in the colour section.

2011 AGENDA AND CLUB COMPETITION.

I am so sorry for the delay in the results,my computer went out of action and it took a bit of time to get it up and going.

MALLOW MEMBERS SCOOP THE TOP AWARDS

Morgan O’Neill of the Mallow camera club scooped the top award at the SACC annual competition held in Cahir last Sunday 19th Dec.
Morgans image “Penpal” won the overall best image on the day and also a gold medal for best colour print, he also won a silver medal in the projected image category.
This follows a very successful result in the Celtic Challenge competition held recently in Wales where Morgan also won best overall image.

John Hooton also won a bronze medal in the colour section.

In the Intermediate Section Pakie O’Donoghue won a silver medal in the colour section for his image “Rock” and a bronze medal for him image “Kerry” and also a bronze medal for his image “Smoking Bird” in the projected class.

Well done Pakie for a class act!!!

Despite the bad weather there was a very strong entry.

The Southern Association of Camera Clubs (SACC) is the region of the Irish photographic Federation (IPF) covering the south of the country from Arklow to Clare.
The SACC is responsible for holding the regional rounds of national competitions, hosting guest lecturers,and providing a means of communication between Clubs in the south of the country.
