Camera Clubs from all over Ireland took part in the Irish Photogrpahic Federations National Clubs Finals held in Athlone this weekend.
The Irish Photographic Federation (I.P.F.) is the umbrella body for amateur photography in Ireland.
The two day event, held at the Athlone Institute of Technology is the biggest competitive event in the amateur photography calendar in
Ireland.  This year the judges travelled from Holland, Crotia and Northern Ireland.

Each club is eligable to enter two panels, one monochrome and one colour with each panel having ten images.    Judging of
the monochrome panels took place on Saturday but final results were not announced until Sunday afternoon following the
judging of the colour images.  Mallow Camera Club took second place in the monchrome section and achieved first place in the
colour section.  As overall winners of the competition they were also awarded the coveted “Rose Bowl”  This is the first time a
club from the Southern Association of Camera Clubs has won “The Rose Bowl” and it is especially significant this year as Mallow
Camera Club celebrates its Silver Jubilee.

There were also a number of individual winners with John Hooton winning a gold medal for the best colour image in the competition,

Morgan O’Neill winning a silver medal   in the colour section and Brid Coakley winning a bronze medal also in the colour section.
John Hooton and John O’Flynn also received an honourable mention in the monochrome section while Brid Coakely and Morgan O’Neill both received honourable
mentions in the colour section.
There was further success for club member, Mark Heffernan who was awarded a Licenteship Distinction from the I.P.F. following judging of
his individual panel.  Congradulations to Mark.
Overall a tremendous weekend for all the members of the club.

Mark is a Member of the Celbridge camera club who were placed 3th in the world cup competition this year.

He is a very respected photographer throughout Ireland and abroad and know as a gentleman of the sport.Mark has been very sucessful over the years winning his fair share of gold medals nationally and internationally.In 1997 Mark won two gold medals for Ireland at the European Exposition of Photography in Holland. One was for best national image and the other for best international image – his compilation prints comprised six images in traditional monochrome. Mark’s successes were the first won by an Irishman on the international circuit.

and of course our very own Mallow camera club who came 21st.

Also congrats to Drogheda who came 55th.

The FIAP is an international federation which affiliates as operational members, the national associations of photography. FIAP counts more than 85 national associations in the five continents and represents the benefits of nearly one million individual photographers.

The top clubs all over the world enter this competition and to get these results are just brilliant!!!!Well done all.

FIAP in association with the PSS (Photographic Society of Singapore) are running an international competition and exhibition to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of both FIAP and PSS. The competition will be open to all national federations around the world which are Operational Members of FIAP and based on the theme “Children of the World”.

The IPF are requesting images for consideration as part of the Irish entry by the IPF. Each person can submit up to 3 images with a max. of two images to be included in our panel. Images must 8bit digital JPEG format and be minimum 2000 pixels on its longest size with minimal JPEG 10 compression.

Note

• Digital manipulations must be minimal and should not distort the reality of the image.
• The photographer must own the sole copyright to the image and FIAP and PSS will not be liable for any copyright infringement on the part of the author, and they reserve the right to reject any entries if the origin of the sources is in dispute..
• Images must be exposed in the past 2 years and can be take worldwide.
• There will be 20 FIAP awards in the competition.
• Closing date for entries 6th December 2010.

The FIAP nature Bienniel was held this year in Bangalor, India and Ireland had an entry. This entry was chosen from images entered in the 2009 and 2010 IPF national nature competition. The Irish panel consisted of 20 digital images and 10 prints from 20 different photographers.

Well done to our own John Flynn on been selected to join the Irish team with his image”Damselfly”.
This year the Irish entry did extremely well coming 8th in the Projected Image section and 6th in the Print section.
This means that each individual image is awarded an honorable mention.
Well done to John and the rest of the Irish Team.
