Tony Worobiec Lecture and Workshop in Mallow

As a follow up to the highly successful lecture by Joe Cornish last October I am now delighted to announce that Mr. Tony Worobiec will be doing a lecture and workshop in Mallow on the weekend 26th/27th February 2010.

Tony is a leading Black and White photographer and an expert in digital black and white printing. He trained as a Fine Artist and headed a large design faculty in Dorset for over 20 years. He has won awards for his work in the UK and internationally. He has exhibited at London’s Barbican Gallery and Bradford’s National Museum of Photography.

His first published project, “Rhythms of the Land” featured monochrome landscapes which focused primarily on the structure of the land and the rhythm it creates. The photographs range from the broad sweeping vistas of the North American landscape to the intimate details of the coastline near his Dorset home.

Whilst Tony steadfastly continues to work with scanned film, he warmly embraces the digital revolution. A regular feature writer for various magazines both here in the UK and the US, he has particularly sought to connect traditional darkroom workers with digital alternatives. He has also recognised that working digitally has opened many new avenues which allow the photographer to explore issues that could not have been contemplated using more traditional methods.

On Friday 26th Tony will be doing a lecture and showing some of his own work and on Saturday 27th he will be hosting a workshop where he will go through the process of converting and printing black and white images.

Cost for lecture (open to all) is 7 Euro and tickets are available at the door.
The workshop on Saturday is limited to 30 and must be pre-booked. The cost of the workshop is 25 Euro.

Mallow Camera Club Attracts Large Crowd to GOAL Evening

Mallow Camera Club, recently hosted an evening with award winning photographers Julien Behal and Mallow’s Sean Murphy to present their own photographs from a recent trip to India, as part of an awareness campaign by GOAL. A large attendance of over 180 people attended the Hibernian Hotel in Mallow to see a presentation of photographs for over 3 hours. It was a memorable evening made all the more worthwhile by the raising of valuable funds for GOAL, predominantly by the voluntary efforts of Julien and Sean. The evening raised €3,495 which was greatfully recieved by Alison Crowzer from GOAL on the evening. Pictured at the event were Tim Geary, Sean Murphy, Pat Sheehan, Alison Crowzer (GOAL) and Julien Behal. Renowned Award Winning Photographers to Visit Mallow Camera Club

Denis Whelehan and Tony McDonnell of Dundalk Photographic Society will be making the trip to Mallow to show their award winning images. Both are experienced photographers and well known in Irish photographic circles.

The talk will take place in the new GAA Complex at Carrigoon, Mallow on Friday 20^th March at 8:00 p.m. There will be a small cover charge, and light refreshments will be served. This is a night that should not be missed.

John & Morgan Win Medals at National Finals

John O’Flynn and Morgan O’Neill won Gold and Bronze medals respectively in the IPF National Print and Projected Images Finals held in Mullingar on Sunday 15 February 2009. John won his medal for best Intermediate Monochrome print, while Morgan won third place in the Open Section of the Projected Images category.

A Great Evening With Brian & Ciaran

Brian Hopper and Ciaran DeBhal from Dundalk Photographic Society paid a very successful visit to Mallow Camera Club on Friday night last, 07 November. Brian and Ciaran made the long journey from Dundalk to present their superb images to keen photographers from Mallow and surrounding clubs. The audience were regaled with stories of their photographic exploits. Both photographers have travelled extensively and they shoot a wide range of subject matter.

There was good banter between the speakers and the audience, and the quality of the images and the commitment of both photographes to their art came through on the night. A good night was had by all.

Mallow Camera Club Welcome Dundalk Photographic Society

Mallow Camera Club are proud to announce that members of Dundalk Photographic Society will be visiting Mallow to exhibit their work. Dundalk Photographic Society has been very successful over the years with many of their members winning awards in competitions in Ireland and abroad.

Brian Hopper and Ciaran DeBhal will show their work which has helped Dundalk P S to become one of the most successful clubs in Ireland. Visit www.dundalkphoto.com to see examples of Brain and Ciaran’s work.

The meeting will take place at 8pm sharp on Friday 7th November at the new Mallow GAA complex and is open to all. Members of other clubs are welcome to attend.

John Hooton Wins Top UK Gold Medal

At the recent East Antrim Open Photographic Competition, John Hooton of Mallow Camera Club won the Gold Medal for the best image in the competition.

This award, from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) is much sought after in the photographic world. John’s Gold Medal winning image was in black and white, which is the first time John has won in that format. Along with the Gold Medal John also won a PAGB Bronze medal, and a special panel award for the best set of three images in the competition.

The Judge for the competition was Mr Kieran Murray, and the exhibition will travel to a number of venues around Northern Ireland over the coming months.

Thurles Distinctions for John, Bríd and Morgan

The club got off to a great start at this weekends IPF National Club Finals when club members John Hogan, Bríd Coakley and Morgan O’Neill all achieved photographic distinctions in the Saturday sitting.

John Hogan gained his Licentiateship of the Irish Photographic Federation (LIPF) with a panel of ten colour images, representing a variety of themes and styles.

Bríd Coakley presented a panel of fifteen superb seascapes, for which she was awarded an Associateship (AIPF), the second level grade of distinction awarded by the IPF.

Morgan O’Neill’s panel of fifteen shots of old and decaying cottage interiors, giving a glimpse into forgotten Ireland, was also awarded an Associateship (AIPF). All awards were unanimous, voted on by a panel of expert judges who already hold IPF distinctions.

All three panels will be shown in the club on Monday night, 28 April.

Up Coming Events at Mallow Camera Club

On Monday April 14th Donncha O Caoimh will present a educational Tutorial evening. Donncha will inform fellow club members of useful websites that will help many photographers.

Reminder for all club members, the upcoming Photographer of the year is fast approaching. This is the first year that the club has introduced a closing date. All mono prints, colour prints, digital files and slides must be delivered to David Lavery competition secretary by Tuesday 13th may. Please note images accepted after this date may not be guaranteed a place in the final. Images accepted on the night of the competition (May 19) will not be accepted.

Max Print size is 16inx12in
Max mount size is 16inx20in
Smallest size print is 5inx7in

Please note it is not compulsory to have images mounted. Images used in previous photographer of the year competitions are not allowed. Images that have been commissioned (been paid to carry out) are also exempt from the competition.
